Regulation & Resilience Consultation
Regulation & Resilience Consultation is a comprehensive, developmentally informed framework that brings together a child’s developmental history, individual strengths, needs, and current functioning to provide a more complete understanding of their developmental profile. The consultation helps identify practical, individualized recommendations to support regulation, strengthen connection, and promote meaningful progress at home, school, and in daily life.
The Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics ™ (NMT ™)
Consultations are informed by the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics ™ (NMT ™). The Neurosequential Network ™ acknowledges that Kelly Ezzell has completed NMT Training Certification through the Phase I level. Please click here for more information about Phase I Certification.
Who Can Benefit from a Consultation?
Consultations may be helpful for children and adolescents experiencing:
Emotional, behavioral, or developmental concerns
Difficulties with regulation or coping
Attention, executive functioning, learning, or sensory differences
Social or relationship challenges
Significant life experiences or transitions, chronic stress, adversity, or a history of developmental trauma
Continued challenges despite previous interventions
What does the Consultation Include?
The consultation is completed over approximately four, 60-90 minute, visits. The process includes an initial meeting to discuss concerns and goals and gather a comprehensive developmental history, followed by an assessment of current functioning using the NMT™ framework, including completion of the NMT™ Metric and Functional Brain Map. Findings and individualized recommendations are reviewed during a feedback session, with a follow-up approximately 4–6 weeks later to discuss progress, address barriers or questions, and refine recommendations as needed.
What Recommendations are Included?
Recommendations are selected and sequenced to best match each child’s individual needs. Recommendations may include sensory, self-regulation, relational, and cognitive activities and supports. Some may be incorporated into everyday routines at home, while others may involve collaboration with therapists, educators, healthcare providers, or community-based activities and enrichment opportunities.
Examples include, but are not limited to:
Rhythmic and movement-based activities
Sensory supports and strategies
Caregiver-child activities and interactions
Relationship-building activities
Creative and expressive arts activities
School-based supports and accommodations
Referrals for physical, occupational, or speech therapy
Psychotherapy approaches tailored to child’s history and developmental needs
Animal-assisted activities
Collaboration with other professionals involved in your child’s care
Families Leave With
Through a comprehensive, developmentally informed approach, families gain a clearer understanding of their child’s developmental profile and the factors that may be influencing regulation, relationships, learning, behavior, and daily life. Caregiver education helps families understand how their child’s unique history may shape patterns of regulation, stress response, and behavior, allowing them to see the whole child rather than focusing on symptoms or diagnoses.
Families receive a written summary that includes their child’s developmental history, assessment findings, and practical, individualized recommendations selected and sequenced to match their developmental needs rather than relying on age alone.
Families also receive guidance to help prioritize next steps and determine where to focus their time and resources based on their child’s individual needs. Recommendations can be shared with therapists, healthcare providers, educators, and other members of the child’s care team to promote a coordinated, developmentally informed approach across settings.

Where can I find more information about NMT ™?
NMT ™ Stress and Trauma Series
My child hasn’t experienced trauma. Can they still benefit from a consultation?
Absolutely. Many children who benefit have never experienced what most people would consider a traumatic event. The goal isn’t to identify trauma, but to better understand the whole child in order to guide individualized recommendations.
Is this therapy?
No. Consultations are educational and consultative. They are not ongoing psychotherapy and do not replace medical, psychological, educational, or other professional evaluations or treatment. With your permission, these recommendations can also help guide collaboration with the other professionals involved in your child's care.
Does my child receive a diagnosis?
No. Consultations do not provide medical, psychological, psychiatric, or educational diagnoses.
Who is a good candidate for a consultation?
Children and adolescents experiencing challenges related to regulation, behavior, emotions, relationships, learning, attention, sensory differences, foster care, adoption, significant life transitions, developmental trauma, or chronic stress may benefit. It can also be helpful when families feel their child continues to struggle despite previous interventions.
Do you prescribe medications?
No. Medication is not the primary focus of this consultation. Please discuss medication evaluation and management with your child’s primary care or psychiatric provider.
Will you work with my child's therapist, physician, or school?
Yes. With your written permission, collaboration with your child's healthcare providers, therapists, educators, and other professionals can be incorporated into the consultation process when appropriate.
Does my child need previous testing or records?
No. Previous evaluations and medical, educational, or mental health records are very helpful but are not required. If available, they will be reviewed as part of the consultation which can provide additional context and enhance the consultation.
Will you tell me exactly what therapies my child needs?
Rather than recommending a "one-size-fits-all" treatment, consultations help prioritize the timing, sequence, and types of interventions that are most likely to support your child's developmental needs. Recommendations are individualized and may include home-based activities, community enrichment, caregiver strategies, and referrals when appropriate.
Please note: Consultations are not crisis or emergency mental health services. If your child is experiencing a mental health emergency or there are immediate safety concerns, call 911, go to the nearest emergency department, or contact your local mobile crisis team. In southeastern North Carolina, families may contact Mobile Crisis at 866-437-1821.
